Dachshund dog-Importance of
harnesses for small breed dogs

I like harnesses for smaller breeds as
well as those prone to back problems.
Most breeds with back ailments are
those who are short legged and long,
such as the dachshund and some breeds
of Terriers. Toy breeds such as
Chihuahuas can suffer damage to the
trachea from the pulling of a collar to
the neck area.

And another good thing about using
harnesses is if you ever have an
emergency and you have to get your dog
as quickly as possible you can pull
the leash pulling the dog to you or even
into the air away from another dog.
You couldn't do that with a collar
because it would choke the dog.

It is also very important to get a
comfortable fitting harness. I don't like
the
normal nylon ones that are sold in stores
because they can rub the dog and
cause irritation and even hair lose. So I
make my harnesses to not just be
stylish but to be as comfortable on the
dog as possible.

Dachshunds need harnesses to help
them avoid extremely painful back
problems and even paralysis. Their very
long backs undergo a lot of stress if
you pull them around by their necks,
and they're more likely to get ruptured
disks.

Ruptured disk are very painful and it
can lead to permanent paralysis.
Preventive measures include using
harnesses instead of collars, limiting
jumping up and down, running up and
down stairs and allowing them to
carry too much weight as it pulls on the
back.

I have heard of many dachshunds who
have had back and neck problems due
to wearing collars instead of harnesses
Do them a favor — buy them
harnesses.

A harness pulls mostly from the chest
area, it actually saves the back and
neck from the trauma usually caused by
yanking on a collar placed around a
pet's neck.
